A Valentine to my Country

Unity is...
in our name
defines us, we
are different but equal
we, the bicentennial
sequel
on course with
concentric crises, but
the wisest remind us
that all
unity is
the warp, the weft
the pattern of our past
the future mission
a seamless
vision
the fabric the medium
the colors the character
waves of grain
channel through our veins
biases remain while
unity is
the word deferred
for posterity
the goal not the glory
the American
story
a contradiction of
tradition
the experiment, the melting pot
the recipe for democracy,
and

unity is
our destiny
the manifest testament
to which we pledge
a promise, a premise
the wedge
between us dislodged
with words not weapons
with truth not seconds
of soundbites, upending
what unity is
mending
